Home Performance Audits for Businesses and Residences.
In conjunction with PG&E and the California Building Performance Contractors Association, the CPC is providing local access to Home Performance Energy Auditing Workshops. These are free and provide theoretical and practical experience that can be immediately applied to reduce energy consumption. To date 48 Green Builders, Contractors, Homeowners and Local Activists have attended these classes.

Local Power
We are staying current with state and national regulations regarding local power generation. Our ultimate goal is to be able to make locally generated clean, renewable power available to Nevada County residents.

Local Action
We are working to promote energy efficiency in our city and county facilities.

State Action regarding the California Solar Initiative
Current law forbids people who are: living in a shaded area, living in a historical district, living in a rented building, or living under a restrictive covenant through a neighborhood association from participating in the Million Solar Roofs program. The law that keeps them from participating states that energy generate by a PV system must be consumed at the site where it is generated. If this law were repealed every California citizen would be eligible to participate in the rebate program.

On October  4, 2007 the co-op made a presentation to the California Energy Commission about the inherent discriminatory nature of the CSI under this law. We were told that this rule was law and only the legislature could change it.
The Co-op plans to organize a coalition to approach the legislature to change the law.

Regular Speaker Programs
We conduct regular meetings, providing the opportunity for local green businesses and residents to directly interact in discussions regarding energy efficiency, conservation and opportunities for alternative energy sources and fuels.  Topics have covered Bio-fuels, Home Performance, Micro-Hydro, Insulation and Wind Turbines. We are continually looking for new topics of interest to the community.

Community College Education
We are encouraging Sierra Community College to create an associate degree program in green building technology. This will provide our youth the opportunity to participate in the growing green building movement. This type of curriculum is showing up all over the country. We are eager to assist our local Community college to take a leadership position in this area.

Tabling
CPCNC members are active at local markets, street fairs, home shows and earth days. We strive to stay current with new technology and trends in order to educate the community in areas of conservation and energy generation.
